Eddie Shleyner
Eddie Shleyner is the founder of VeryGoodCopy, a newsletter about copywriting and creativity built on short “micro-lessons” (a copywriting principle wrapped in a story, sized to fit a LinkedIn post). A former Copy Chief at G2, he grew VeryGoodCopy from a private Google Doc of notes he wrote while teaching himself copywriting into a large owned audience: his own site cites growth of roughly 100 newsletter subscribers a day, Growth In Reverse put the list near 68,000 subscribers in December 2024, and his LinkedIn following runs in the range of 110,000 to 128,000. He is the author of Very Good Copy: 207 Micro-Lessons on Thinking and Writing Like a Copywriter (2024). His growth is a LinkedIn-plus-owned-newsletter story, not an Instagram one.
- Micro-Lessons Sized to the LinkedIn Feed — engineered each lesson to LinkedIn’s ~220-word, 1,300-character limit so it posts natively with no reformatting
- Documenting the Job He Didn’t Know Yet — built the content library by documenting what he learned while teaching himself copywriting on the job
- Borrowing HubSpot’s Audience to Seed His Own — pitched onto HubSpot’s blog with no audience and used an in-post backlink to seed his own list
- The Newsletter-Powered LinkedIn Growth Loop — used the owned newsletter to amplify his LinkedIn posts and convert the new reach back into subscribers
- A Website Built to Do One Thing — pointed every page and article at a single conversion goal, newsletter signup
